Open Mind / Time, what makes us tick?

TIME what makes us tick? is it our inner clock, or are we part of a gigantic clockwork regulating our daily moves? Observed on a human scale, the very basic rhythm of every day is sunset and sunrise, we go in to bed and out of bed. A rhythm, so elementary and universal and at the same time so intimate. This is an impression of Sync’ by Max Hattler and ‘Bedrooms’ bij Nelleke Koop with music by Dennis van Tilburg. These were part of the ‘Time, what makes us tick?’ installation in the Open Mind series of Pavlov E-Lab, presented on the Noorderzon Performing Arts festival 2010. In this edition Max and Nelleke collaborated with chronobiologist Martha Merrow and physicist Eric Bergshoeff in their mutual exploration of the theme of Time.

Can someone with an Ancestry.com account look something up for me?

Question by Justin W: Can someone with an Ancestry.com account look something up for me?
I just can’t seem to find my great grandmother anywhere I look.
Her name is Elizabeth Sadler, she was born in Tennessee around 1906, married Carl Carter in 1923 in Tennessee, and had a son Carl Carter in 1924. She also may have been in Ohio around the time of the 1930 census. I am mainly curious to find information on who her parents were if at all possible? I found her marriage record on Ancestry.com, but without an account I can’t see any of the information it contains or a picture of the document.
If someone could help I would really appreciate it as this is the main roadblock I have hit in compiling my family tree so far.

I do not know of when she died or the location. The furthest I can trace her is to Lucas County, Ohio in 1930 with my great grandfather and my grandfather. I have heard stories about how she was abandoned by her husband and that she eventually remarried to a man with the last name Tooker, but other than that I don’t know very much about her.
Claude Carter is his younger brother so it’s the right one. I did hear stories in the family that my grandfather was given to another family to live as a child so that might explain his being absent in that census.
Both of her parents were born in Tennessee which eliminates Myrtle Hawk being the mother as she was born in Alabama.
I’m fairly certain it’s the wrong Sadler family altogether. I’m going based off of my grandfather’s death certificate as well as a marriage license from Williamson County that her last name was Sadler.
I just feel that I don’t have enough information to trust a census and a gravestone about the identity of her parents and start following that branch backwards. I’m simply trying to get the information contained in certain documents that show up on ancestry.com that I know are about her to possibly uncover some leads.

you might be surprised at what www.familysearch.org has for free. This family is in Jackson co, Tenn in 1920. You still would want to cross check against something such as a death cert.

this family file seems to match the above William F Sadler, since it is the right year and county. It does not include the children of William and his wife.

she was the only Elizabeth Sadler born in 1906. It could be wrong, and the census might also have a transcription problem.
When/ where did she die? do you have an obit, hopefully with names of siblings?

You often need to be able to prove your marriage when applying for insurance, when adopting children or, unfortunately, if considering divorce. With that information you will be able to order a new copy to keep in your files. Using the Internet to request, pay for and print out a certificate can save you a great deal of time and money. Only those documents that have to include a raised and embossed seal still need be ordered in person.

Wouldn’t it be exciting to find out, when you visit the Texas State Vital Records Office, that you share a distant relative with Sandra Day O’Connor? Or how about Howard Hughes or H. Ross Perot? Or the famous woman golfer, Babe Didrikson Zaharias? Texas’ history is rich with famous, and infamous, characters and you could be related to any one of them.

Of course, you could also be related to Princess Grace or Lady Diana. Or Coco Chanel or George Washington. That’s what’s so great about researching your family ancestry. You never know what – or should I say who – you’re going to find next.

The Texas State Vital Records Office is a good place to start your family tree research, though. Their modern facility and state of the art equipment will enable you to quickly find the records you’re looking for so you can find it if you really are related to the person you’ve been speaking to on Facebook these last three years.

Of course the history of Texas includes the oil rush so you’re likely to run into a relative from just about anywhere in the United States. This country is known as The Melting Pot for a reason. People have been immigrating here from foreign lands for hundreds of years and even now we still suffer from wanderlust here in the US. People are constantly on the move which would seem to make it even more difficult to track down distant relatives. However with advances in research techniques and modern technology it’s easier now than ever before to find that great-great-great grandfather your family lost track of so long ago. And who knows? HE may be that person you’ve been speaking with on Facebook! You’ll find out soon enough though when you start your search at the Texas State Vital Records Office.
