Can someone help me find the any records of Andrew J. Flowers and Jennie Price?

March 14th, 2012 Jesse 1 comment

Question by J: Can someone help me find the any records of Andrew J. Flowers and Jennie Price?
I have reason to believe that they were married in the Portsmouth, Ohio area – Scioto County. I could be wrong, but this is where all my family stems from.\

They had a son named Frank who was married to Anna Marie Kelley 25 Nov 1903. I have found their marriage record, but I am not finding anything pertaining to Andrew and Jennie’s birth or marriage.

I need help and would greatly appreciate anyone willing.

Anyone know how big the gaps are in pre civil war marriage records in NC?

Question by : Anyone know how big the gaps are in pre civil war marriage records in NC?
Specifically in Sampson and or Rockingham counties?

I’ve got my family back that far, but we’ve hit a brick wall trying to nail down the parents of my GGG grandparents. GGG grandmother’s obituary states that they were married in Sampson county when she was 18, which would have been around 1844, and we know that they lived in Rockingham County from at least 1860 to about 1867. I have found GGG grandfather listed as the bondsman for another couple in Rockingham County in 1846, but I can’t find anything on a marriage for them in either location.

i have my suspicions about who their parents were, but I really don’t have enough to confirm it yet and I haven’t been able to connect with any other researchers who are currently researching those branches of the families I believe they belonged to. There seems to be a slim chance that some of his family may have been Quakers, but I’m getting nothing to indicate that hers were, and I haven’t been able to turn up anything in that direction either.

Did a lot of these records get toasted during the civil war, or not maintained at all? Any other suggestions?
Joyce- Once again, sorry about the names. I’m new to this section.

In this case I am looking for a marriage record for Thomas Wright Pearson (1817-1892) married to a Ronzilla Elana Gregory (1824 or 1826-1899)

Census records indicate that both Thomas and Roxie (as she was always known) were illiterate, and I suspect that the birthdate that most of our family accepts for Roxie is off by a bit. I do have her obituary which states that her maiden name was Gregory and that she and Thomas were married in Sampson county, I cannot narrow down the date exactly because all that is said is that she was 18 when they married.

The only Gregory’s I can find in Sampson county with children are an Elijah and Sarah Gregory. They had a child who is referred to as “Elany” born 9-3-1824, while my Roxie Elana was supposedly born 9-1-1826. There are a few other scraps of information that lead me to believe this might be the same person, but none of the people researching the Gregory family seem to b

Without names to research, it is hard to find anything. Did you try the NC historical society? Maybe someone there can help you.

Louisiana Marriage Records from 1950′s?

March 12th, 2012 Jesse No comments

Question by JPIowa: Louisiana Marriage Records from 1950′s?
I am trying to locate a marriage record in Lousiana, the marriage and divorce would have both occurred between 1955 and 1965. I do not know the county or parish though. Does anyone have any idea?

There are some things we can’t find online…these are two of them. But they are public records…just not open for public perusal until 72 years after the event.

I would tell you that the easy answer is to just contact the Clerk of the Court for every parish in LA. That’s the short answer. The other part to it is that you may never get a reply just sending blanket requests out. You also don’t mention your relationship to the two spouses. If you’re a child of the marriage, then you have a more legitimate reason for the info than does a complete stranger. This is important in some states. My very best suggestion is to call every Clerk of the Court for every parish. Tell them that you’re looking for the divorce records on Mr. ******* and Mrs. ******* from the early 1960s. Then (important to say this right) ask, “Could you please look up the case number so that I can send in my request?”

There are a number of reasons why this is important, but the biggest one being it makes them pull up the record on their computer and verify that they have it. If they can’t find it, then you move on and forget about that parish. If they refuse to look it up, then you need to either make a trip over there or ask if they have an index which can be searched and get a Rootsweb volunteer from that parish to find it for you. If they have it, then you don’t need to look for the marriage record separately. There should be a copy of the license in the divorce procedings.

Otherwise, you have to go through one of those “we’ll find the record for you” services that costs an arm and a leg.

Is there a way to find California divorce records from the late 1800s (Stanislaus County)?

February 8th, 2012 Jesse 2 comments

Question by MishMash [I am not one of your fans]: Is there a way to find California divorce records from the late 1800s (Stanislaus County)?
I am most positive that I have ancestors that divorced around1875 in Stanislaus County, California. They were married to each other in 1866 and by 1875 they were both remarried to other people. I can find transcribed records of the marriages, but not of they’re divorce.

amanda background: HEMET, Calif.—A man shot to death his estranged wife Wednesday in a parking lot near a Riverside County courthouse and then killed himself ahead of a child-support hearing, police said. Ralph Costales, 54, of Nuevo, was talking with Aimee Schulz after she pulled into the lot near the Hemet courthouse at 8:15 am, then shot her at least twice in the chest and walked away. He then drove off in an older silver Mercedes, said Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart. With help from witnesses in the parking lot, police tracked down Costales and began following him about four miles away before he pulled over to the side of the road and shot himself, Wisehart said. “It was pretty obvious we were following him and he knew what he just did,” Wisehart said, adding that the car rolled forward into a drainage ditch after Costales killed himself. Schulz, 37, filed for divorce in November, online court records show. The couple married in 2004 and separated in October. On Wednesday, the couple was due in court for a hearing about child and spousal support and use of a vehicle, according to court records. Kimberly Jones, 45, told the Press-Enterprise that she ducked after she heard the gunfire, then ran over to find the woman bleeding and slumped in the driver’s seat. “I saw her breathe and tried to do CPR, but it was her last breath. Then I backed away and looked at him,” Jones told the newspaper. “He was angry enough to kill her, so my thought was if he couldn’t have her then
